|Opening Day Invitation/Great town hall meetings
Your Texas Legislature will begin its 2017 session this coming Tuesday, January 10 at the Texas Capitol in Austin. We will get down to business doing the work you elected us to do, but on Tuesday we will take some time for opening day festivities.
If you are planning to be in Austin, please stop by and visit us in our new office in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.402 (at the other end of the hall from the Cafeteria).
You can watch Tuesday’s swearing-in ceremony from the House Gallery (on the third floor). The Gallery, which is first come, first served, opens at 10:30 a.m. The session opens at noon. If you want a seat in the Gallery, I recommend being in line well before 10:30. If you don’t find a seat in the Gallery, you are welcome to watch on the TVs in our office. We would love to see you.
Town Hall Meetings
I want to thank everyone who came out to our two town hall meetings this week. You made them a big success. We had near-capacity crowds on Wednesday night at the Lakeland Activity Center in Bridgeland and on Thursday at Katy city hall. Both meetings included an update from me on the issues facing our state which will be addressed by the Legislature in the coming session and a lively discussion of a wide range of issues on the minds of HD 132 residents. Having heard from our neighbors, I feel better prepared for the upcoming session.
Thank you to Kay Burkhalter for introducing me in Bridgeland and to Katy mayor Fabol Hughes for introducing me last night in Katy.
As always, I will endeavor to keep you informed on issues the Legislature is tackling, so you can weigh in before we take action. There probably will be about 6,500 bills, so there will be many issues that I don’t have the opportunity to tell you about before we vote, but we will try to keep you up to date on the major issues HD 132 residents have expressed concern about.
